Achia has over 20 years of experience, including 13 years in-house, representing technology, retail, alternative energy as well as other employers. She believes that in-house lawyers must understand and embrace corporate strategy, values and culture to be effective and impactful. Achia regularly advises C-Level, Leaders, Managers and Human Resources in all aspects of employment law such as hiring, employment agreements, protection of trade secrets and non-competition issues, equal employment opportunity, leaves of absence, wage and hour, workplace investigations, corporate restructuring, contingent worker classification, accommodating medical conditions, FLSA classifications, M&A/HR due diligence, traditional labor relations and workplace violence avoidance. She is focused on workplace laws in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but also has experience advising on workplace laws and practices in APAC, EMEA and LATAM. She is a skilled trainer focusing on helping the Business “spot the issue” on such topics as equal employment opportunity, performance management, accommodating medical conditions, navigating local, state and federal leave of absence requirements, managing non-exempt employees, workplace investigations and more. Achia is an experienced litigator who has represented employers in class action, multi-plaintiff and single-plaintiff employment cases. Her litigation experience includes the defense of employers in discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, FLSA classification, breach of contract, medical accommodation and leaves of absence cases.
