Dr Kim Lucas Benton, was raised in San Francisco, CA. She is a general dentist in private practice in Daly City, CA. She is a graduate of Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN, class of 1988. Initially, following graduation from Meharry, Dr Benton joined her father, Dr Henry Lucas in private practice, and in 1998, after gaining considerable experience, she decided it was time to venture out on her own. Dr Benton celebrated her 20 th year of solo practice in September of 2018. In 1994, Dr Benton joined the faculty at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni, School of Dentistry. She began her career as part-time clinical instructor in the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Treatment planning at the invitation of Dr. Peter Jacobsen. Dr Benton left Pacific Dugoni briefly in the year 2001 as her priorities in life changed. She returned to Pacific Dugoni in January of 2011 and is currently part-time assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Oral Health and the Department of Dental Practice. She is passionate about working with students and interacting with the outstanding faculty, staff and administrators. Dr Benton graduated with distinction from Capella University, receiving a Master’s in Public Health, with a specialization in Health Management and Policy in June 2018. Her focus is to create the awareness of the important connection between Diabetes and Oral Health in dental clinical settings, amongst interprofessional health care providers, and within our communities. She has completed extensive research over the past four years and has come to realize that there is an enormous disconnect with Oral Health and General Health. It is her desire to facilitate change in this area through the development of prevention and intervention programs. Dr Benton has been married to her best friend and husband Mark, (who is a retired SF Sheriffs Deputy) for almost 34 years. They are the proud parents of two Army officers. Their daughter Kayla is a 1 st Lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corp returning recently from a deployment in Kuwait. Their son Mark II is a Captain in the Army Reserves pursuing his Master’s in Divinity with a plan to return to active duty as an Army Chaplain.
