Why is the racial wealth gap so significant?

And what can be done to close the gap and create generational wealth for communities of color?

According to the Institute for Policy Studies, the wealth disparity between White and Black Americans will take 228 years to close. They predict that by 2020, white households are projected to own 86 times more wealth than Black households and 68 times more wealth than Latino households.  It is a trend that is visible across socio-economic levels. This panel will take a look at the genesis of the racial wealth gap and structural causes of inequality. They will provide insight on practical steps Black professionals can take to accumulate generational wealth and assets; how wealth transmission can be accomplished earlier in life; and what generational sacrifices must be made in order to leave a lasting legacy that builds enduring wealth for the future.
